Opening Film Sequences

My partner and I are deciding to go more of a horror route with our end of year project. We started watching a couple of the opening sequences of different ones such as "Evil Dead Rise", "The Nun", and "The Conjuring". In all of these there is a common theme in all of them. The common theme is that the movies would start off showing events from the past or right before a big moment and begin explaining the main problem in the movie.

For example, in the beginning of "Evil Dead Rise", the opening shows a couple that are on a camping trip. During this trip, the woman gets possessed by a demon and ends up killing the man. After this sequence, they show the title of the film.

These opening scenes that begin these movies are used as a way to give a backstory or preliminary idea of what the movie is about and possibly starts giving the audience ideas on what is going to happen further in the movie. This also happens in "The Nun". The first couple of scenes shows two nuns entering a dark room that is obviously home to an evil force. After the older nun goes inside she comes out, obviously possessed by something that was in the room. She finds the younger nun and convinces her to "make a sacrifice" and ends up hanging herself. After her body is found by a villager, the title sequence plays.
